hmm...the singaporean chief executioner has been fired days before he was due to kill the melbourne man for trafficking drugs. he has conducted more than 850 killings in his career, which has spanned 50 years...

(i say kill and killing rather than "execute" and "executions" because in my eyes, no matter whether its punshing somebody else, or for any other reason, you're still killing someone whether or not your sanctioned to.

I got this in an email :)

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast has formed a strong bond with a giant male century-old tortoise, in an animal facility in the port city of Mombassa , officials said.

The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about 300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki River into the Indian Ocean , then forced back to shore when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on December 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.

"It is incredible. A-less-than-a-year-old hippo has adopted a male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to be very happy with being a 'mother'," ecologist Paula Kahumbu, who is in charge of Lafarge Park , told AFP .

"After it was swept and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatized. It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother. Fortunately, it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond. They swim, eat and sleep together," the ecologist added. "The hippo follows the tortoise exactly the way it follows its mother. If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive, as if protecting its biological mother," Kahumbu added.

"The hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and by nature, hippos are social animals that like to stay with their mothers for four years," he explained.

omg...i just saw on the news this horrific story on how somewhere (i dont know where, i came after the story started) a lady was either getting off a train...i think she was distracted, and her pram (who was still on the platform) got its handle stuck in the doors which had closed, and the train was now moving away from the platform and all we saw was a cctv feed of her being dragged along with the pram, trying to get her baby out of it. the story concluded with the note that the baby was saved metres before being killed.

woohoo! australia is one of the first countries to have companies pushing wimax out the door and into consumers hot little hands, and in sydney, for a very low $349 you can get a wimax card for your laptop along with a $55 cost for the plan each month to use the Unwired pre-wimax network.

omg everyone check out QRIO!

the avian bird flu has infiltrated japan as of this morning and i am urging all of you, here in australia and anywhere else in the world to please refrain from having a high intake of chicken or better yet, not at all. no im not paranoid, but if it can get into japan, a country with one of the most regulated incoming and outgoing chains in the world, it also has a high possiblity of getting to any other country. please be wary that this isnt just an asian thing, it can spread anywhere and australia wouldnt be preparing itself to be able to deal with a pandemic if it wasnt a real threat.

be careful.

usually when im testing and using new online services, i give them about a month, see if i actually need them in the first place, see how i interact with them and the like. its been well overdue me summing up what i think about some of them. here they are in point form:

flock - good in idea and premise, not the best in implementation

flickr - excellent. i couldnt be happier with flickr, not that i take many photos myself, but i just enjoy the freedom of going online and being able to find photos, using an intelligent tagging system. you can tell a good service when it is adopted by a lot of people, and people's own mini flickr feeds directly on their sites and blogs is a good indication at the easiness and depth to the flickr service. i am more than happy with it :)

gmail - everyone needs email, i choose a web based one so i may check it at uni and at any where else i may be. great storage capacity and good archiving and searching features. very good.

tada list - tada lists are great. easy lists for anything anytime. i currently only have 4 lists, but they are for what i need. such as what to download, what i need to buy (in terms of gifts, clothing, etc), a simple todo list and uni assessments i need to complete. this service is simple and clear in implementation and great if you need a bit of flexibility in the lists you keep, such as accessibility anywhere with net access, a nice interface etc.

google reader - not the best service...very slow and to tell the truth, the interface is a bit shitty and stymied (cos everything is a bit too large and screen crowding). i am not going to use this service anymore till it speeds up considerably and has a bit more of a google interface than one that looks half baked

these are the main services i have been using and anything i havent mentioned probably doesnt appeal that much to me. of course, if you have any good services you use that i probably havent thought of (i dont think that much :P) then pls comment and let me know, cos im really wanting to try out some new ones soon :)

You Are A: Kitten!

kitty catCute as can be, kittens are playful, mischevious, and ever-curious. Like you, kittens hate getting wet. Kittens are often loving, but are known to scratch or bite when annoyed. These adorable animals are the most popular pets in the United States--37% of American households have at least one cat. Whether it is your gentle purr or your disarming appearance, you make a wonderful kitten.

You were almost a: Monkey or a Parakeet
You are least like a: Bunny or a Duckling

this kid is an asshole.

this shot was from when the halloween zombie mob stormed into the local san francisco apple shop to spread the halloween joy, when he had to be there with this dirty look on his face.

thats the only reason im posting this i guess. cos he is a little asshole who thinks he is better than everyone. if you scrub through the video, you see that all he does is look down at these halloweeners as if thinking to himself "wtf are these losers doing here in my oh so high society apple store". dont get me wrong. i love apple (and my powerbook) and people who use apple, so dont be thinking that i reckon everyone going into an apple store is up themselves.

just this kid. the one who's balls havent dropped yet. notice his big sister?...you can see she has hit puberty and matured somewhat cos she doesnt have an arrogant look on her face like her little fucktard brother.

im sorry for swearing and i guess for those who dont like this post, im sorry for the whole thing too. but to tell the truth, i just had to say it. this kid is an asshole.

yes yes YES...my favourite ad got the top place...qantas airlines "i still call australia home" ad which cost millions to produce, required many kilometres to be travelled all over the world. simply soul stirring, it is my favourite ad.

14 february 1966 was the day our decimal currency came into australia!

everyone head over to channelfrederator.com and download the episodes. they are really nice looking cartoons designed to be viewed on the ipod, but can be put on your psp or watched on the computer :)

i had such a weird dream last night. i was in the house i live in now, and there seemed to be lots of yellowish snakes everywhere...like the colour of dijon mustard. anyway at first there was just one..and i didnt seem to be scared, but i grabbed it behind the head and carried it of, i dont remember where. then i started feeling a tingling feeling and then i forgot everything in the dream up until i was in my sisters room and there was another snake under her bed. i got her out of there and put her in another roomand then i found myself outside my parents room. in there there were heaps of snakes all slithering everywhere, but my parents werent in there. my father wasnt in my dream at all.

anyway my mother needed to go into her room for something and she went in even thought these snakes were everywhere and she seemed to be spending too long getting something (i could see her and all and she wasnt oblivious to the snakes, she was just being slow like she usually is) anyway the snakes started slithering up onto her and i was panicking, screaming at her to hurry up and get out of there so i could lock the snakes in. she finally got them off her and ran out and i locked the snakes in.

the next thing i remmeber we are all watching tv or something and another snake comes and so i grab it, but this time i grab it half way down, purposely or not i dont know. i know in the dream it would bite me if it had the chance but i still didnt grab it behind its head, i dont know why. anyway so im holding it sort of panicking discussing what i should do with it then everything seems to slow down. i look down and i watch as it slowly goes and opens its mouth wide and latches onto my arm and bites me. i dont bleed but there are two huge puncture marks there. then i forget what happens but i know someone has told me to put something on it, but i dont know what to do, i cant move and nobody will get the stuff for me. it just seems like im all by myself and i have this snake bite which im screaming to everyone about but for some reason it seems they cant hear me. then i wake up.

it was really weird. snakes in dreams usually mean enemies. i have no idea why their colour was that way, or why they were all heavily concentrated in my parents room (there were some others around the house too). i dont know why my father wasnt in my dream (probably cos he is travelling right now and so cos he isnt here he probly wasnt in my dream). i dont know why there were so many snakes or why i knowingly held the snake wrong and watched it bite me. i also dont know why i didnt bleed.

i have some explanantion, but i am just not sure as to whether they are correct. snakes representing enemies i guess is just representing my feeling of everyone being against me, something that i am not going to really discuss here, but is tied in with different areas of my life right now. i guess they were all in my parents room because parents represent an authority to their children, people who are knwoing and wise and who have some control. i guess also that there were many snakes because in life, there are so many factes, so many people who you cant trust, but initially do so because you think you can trust them, till they turn on you. i dont have lots of enemies, or any real enemies at all...but i dont trust many people, very very few in fact. i will still call people my friends. but if it came down to something i had to trust someone with, i would only being going to about 1 or 2 people ever. the snake biting me i dont know about either for sure. i guess it represents something that happened recently where i got "bitten", but nothing bad happened, hence i didnt bleed.

idno...if anyone random out there even bothers to read my blog and knows about dreams, pls lemme know what it means if i am wrong!

Tuesday, November 01, 2005
