"you can see the thought, and the time and the love that's gone into it, and it's just wonderful...i want it
now" - Seal, on the iPod, back in it's release in 2001. 5 years ago jonathan ive said "our goal was to the design, the very very best mp3 player that we could, um, to design something that
could become an icon. and you know, we will see whether that's the case or not..." about the iPod. since then there have been over 42 million iPods sold. at the 2006 macworld in san francisco, steve jobs made note that 14 million of those iPods had been sold in the 2005 holiday period
alone, which effectively turned out to be over 100 per minute, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the entire quarter. 32 million iPods were sold in total for the 2005 calendar year. for something that apple hadn't dabbled in before 2001, the iPod was definately a
very smart move. and since, it has definately become an icon, so much so, that some people actually see apple as the 'iPod company', which also happens to sell computers. if anything was to take claim for becoming an phenomenon, it is the iPod. congratulations apple :)
