i was just about to blog about how im finding it hard to still hate lindsay lohan for her pitiful attention seeking ways, cos her song "confessions of a broken heart" is somewhat moving, considering her father is behind bars...but then it occurred to me, she can't have that much of a broken heart if she is trying to peddle a song for some extra cash. if i wanted a better childhood with my father or mother, i wouldn't be going singing a song about it, and putting it on a cd im gonna charge people money for!

ok...here is an attempt (not my own) to make 1 = 2:

Let a = b

Then a² = ab,

a² + a² = a² + ab,

2a² = a² + ab,

2a² - 2ab = a² + ab - 2ab,

2a² - 2ab = a² - ab.

Rewritten as: 2(a² - ab) = 1(a² - ab),

Cancelling (a² - ab) from both sides gives 1 = 2.

i, being dumb, of course believed it until i realised the site i was looking at was a collection of common false proofs...and with basic algebra too! -_-"

this is a really cool concept...its referred to as "3D Painting" and its where what seems to be a 3D image is viewable only from one single point in the room, and viewing the room in any different way would make it seem like random painting. see here for pics!

well i'm now officially a ma.gnolia beta tester!...and so begins the arduos task of migrating my del.icio.us bookmarks to ma.gnolia. so far i can see ma.gnolia has some good aspects over del.icio.us, such as multiple-word single tags (as in, a single tag can contain many words) and the interface is a LOT cleaner and refined. yes, del.icio.us's interface doesnt have much clutter, but when i say clean, i mean pleasant to look at. oh and the concept of rating my bookmarks is an excellent idea too. the fact i can keep some bookmarks private and some public is good, and the tag cloud showing the most used tags (represented by the size of the tag in the cloud) is really helpful. some really solid thought has gone into this i can see and i think i will definately be using ma.gnolia a lot more than del.icio.us if not totally replacing del.icio.us with it if it ever comes out of beta :)

update: well i wasn't wrong about ma.gnolia, the service has really done well and some smaller features which i think we will all end up taking advantage have been added...such as click on/off tags which both allow me to click a tag to select it and click again to deselect, tags highlight when they are selected (yes its small, but u cant say it doesnt help!) and more. the one gripe i have (i am writing this after ma.gnolia came out of beta) is ads. the interface which was so nice to look at now has a few ads on it...they have streamlined them with the site, so not all is bad, i can see they havent just slapped them on there...and i know the ma.gnolia team need to make money to support the site, but im hoping they can do it the same way del.icio.us somehow did (whatever that was?), cos i like ma.gnolia's interface so much i hate to see it tarnished!

This is from Australia Day celebrations in Perth where some cop was punching a guy 4 times that 2 other cops already had restrained. If you watch the restrained man's body, you see he isn't even moving before, and while he is being punched.

what irritates me about today's youth (and no i am not considered youth at 19) is that they think they have some idea of relationships, particularly with the opposite sex (for all you immature dumbasses out there who are thinking "well who else would someone else have a relationship with - unless they are gay", a relationship is what you have with your parents, your friends, etc. all of those are different types of relationships). anyway back to my point. it irritates me that they say they love each other, and they care so much about the other...but to be honest, its all total BS...they don't know anything about caring or affection or love at all. they THINK they do...and if anyone tells them otherwise, they are wrong, and they don't understand and somehow the young'un in the relationship is so special that they are oh so mature before their age and so they are right in saying they love their girlfriend or boyfriend. NO you are not you little dumbass. argh ARGH its just so testing...kids around me all hug and kiss and other things i shouldnt mention here and my god, they just dont know at all!...one of my friend's sister in darwin is 14, and she wants to give up her virginity to her 16 yr old boyfriend. now wether its peer pressure, or sex is somehow "cool" i just dont know. but its really getting out of hand. sex is about love, someone you want to share the ultimate experience with. of course, everyone these days does it for fun and to get off, and fine, i can accept that. i dont accept kids though doing it. i dont think they know what the FUCK THEY ARE FUCKING WELL SAYING when they rabbit on about loving their girlfriend or boyfriend when THEY ARE FUCKING 14 YEARS OLD. even one of my uni friends is still so goddamn immature he thinks he has some realistic relationship with his stupid girlfriend. and its not that i think people shouldnt have relationships with each other. just dont bullshit that you LOVE your partner when clearly, you dont. *sigh* i wish i could kick them but i cant. i know me saying anything is not going to change anything...but i just had to get it off my chest. they are all fucking deluded, honestly. love is about caring for your partner, cherishing them and giving them your affection. love is unconditional, it's about doing anything for your partner (within reason) and trusting them from the bottom of your heart. its not about fucking them, or how much you buy them or whatever. its about being happy with each other and truly wanting to be a part of each other's lives. a lot of people, all young little fuckers thinking they know everything, say they love their partner, they would do anything for them yada yada yada. i just wish an opportunity would come along to test it. to see if they really would do anything, and i think a good 90% would fail. i know you must think im pessimistic, but you go out and ask a young "couple" if they love each other, and i BET you they will say yes. now if you had some magic wwand to wave and put it to the test, the little wankers wouldnt stick around when the going gets tough.

i guess what my whole rant is about is that, until you are actually mature, and actually KNOW what the HELL this world is about, and not living in your high school dreamland (and yes, it IS dreamland compared to the rest of the world), then DONT FUCKING SAY YOU LOVE YOUR PARTNER WHEN YOU DONT. so many little bitches are whinging "oh i have so much homework, i hate high school, i hate my math teacher" blah fuckety blah - get over it!...kids your age and younger than you are being KILLED everyday in war zones. kids your age and younger are suffering diseases that our society has the money to provide us vaccines for. just stop fucking thinking your life is so hard when its not.

i give up. screw everyone. i know i will never make a difference. i can only blog about it, and know that my readers think i say "fuck" too much -_-"

you know, quite a few people now have asked me why i don't have titles for my blog posts...and i cant seem to explain that, i really don't need titles for each one...im not trying to compartmentalise what i post...they aren't little news stories, they are my thoughts, random things that happen in my day that i post, and they dont need titles, or headings or any of that, cos life doesnt have titles and headings. you dont think with titles, so why blog my personal thoughts with them?...anyway, i just wanted to clear that up with anyone who has been meaning to ask, but never got around to it...yes i mean you sarah ;)

All I Know - Five for Fighting

I bruise you
You bruise me
We both bruise
So easily
Too easily
To let it show
I love you
And that's all I know

All my plans
Keep falling through
All my plans
They depend on you
Depend on you
To help me grow
I love you
And that's all I know

When the singers gone
Let the song go on
It's a fine line between the darkness and the dawn
They say in the darkest night there's a light beyond

But the ending always comes at last.
Endings always come too fast.

And the ending Always
Comes at last
Endings always come too fast
They come too fast
And they pass too slow

I love you
And that's all
It's really all I know
It's all I know
It's all I know

i've updated my photos on flickr, u can see them here.

aww my bro made me such nice dinner ^_^...added to that, i feel really good right now cos i just helped someone with a broken down car. all day the people at my work ridicule me and say things that upset me, but i try not to show it, but what made me feel good was that coming home it was raining so much and there was this guy stopped in a really dark section of road on the way home...i think he flooded his engine, but we got his car started again meanwhile me getting drenched hehe. i gave him my number in case he needed my help anymore cos he was waiting in a nearby carpark till his family arrived or something. but yeh...i know plenty of people, many of them people i know really well who wouldnt even think of stopping for someone who needs help, and that makes me angry.

lol everyone chuck some paper here!

Hehe this is from an email my father sent me:

Dear Tech Support:

Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activity and applications such as Poker Night 10.3, Football 5.0, Hunting and Fishing 7.5, and Racing 3.6. I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but the uninstallation doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please help!

Thanks,
A Troubled User.

REPLY:
Dear Troubled User:

This is a very common problem that men complain about.

Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 7.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed.

You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed to not allow this. Look in your Wife 1.0 manual under Warnings-Alimony-Child Support. I recommend that you keep Wife 1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application "Yes Dear" to alleviate software augmentation.

The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway. Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance. Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean and Sweep 3.0, Cook It 1.5 and Do Bills 4.2.

However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Flowers 2.1 and Diamonds 5.0!

WARNING!!! DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Secretary With Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system.

Best of luck,
Tech Support

Happy birthday to the Macintosh!!! 30 years and still the world's best computer.

Sunday, January 22, 2006

ok...well first of all, i want to state something before i go into anything. i am not a mac fanboy. i use macs, and i do think they are more productive than windows for what i do. there is a critical difference between people who use macs for a reason and love them for THAT reason, and people who just love macs cos they think they are great.

the argument i want to make is about the recent intel ad that apple made for their new intel based computers. this was posted on the Postal Service website (Postal Service is the band that everyone thinks the intel ad is very much similar to):

It has recently come to our attention that Apple Computers' new television commercial for the Intel chip features a shot-for-shot recreation of our video for 'Such Great Heights' made by the same filmmakers responsible for the original. We did not approve this commercialization and are extremely disappointed with both parties that this was executed without our consultation or consent. -Ben Gibbard, The Postal Service

let's clarify something. "a shot-for-shot recreation" means just that, either an exact copy of it, or footage meant to replicate the same image, shot-for-shot. the mac + intel ad is not a shot-for-shot reproduction. in fact, of the two, there is probably only 3 scenes that remotely indicate similarity. firstly, Ben Gibbard of The Postal Service, do not make such a rash claim, such as apple making a shot-for-shot reproduction.

firstly, the videos would have to be the same length to be a reproduction. why?...because the definition of "reproduction" is: 'the action or process of making a copy of something'. a "copy" is 'a thing made to be similar or identical to another'. your video is much longer than the 35 second ad apple had made. secondly, of the 140 odd different scenes you had in your video, approximately 3 resemble some similarity to it from the apple commercial. this by no means constitutes a "shot-for-shot recreation".

thirdly, the party that made both your video and apple's commercial has the free right to use their idea as many times as they want, as they are the intellectual owner of the idea. I assume you hold the copyright to the work produced, as US copyright law states "In the case of works made for hire, the employer and not the employee is considered to be the author", and while you may have copyright over the work produced, you are not able to hold copyright over the idea used. The idea or concept for the video is the copyright of the author who came up with the concept. why you cannot lay claim to that is illustrated in the following example: a company is preparing a new logo. there are several proofs for that logo and a decision is made upon the final one to be used. all other ideas and concepts are not copyrighted to the logo copyright owner. therefore, ideas or derivatives may be used for other companies, as they were not bought or copyrighted in the name of the company acquiring the logo. hence, the work produced in your situation, the video, is your copyright. you may lay claim to copyright infringement if there is a copy made. but there is not. 3 of approximately 140 scenes bearing some similarity does not indicate copying, and definately does not inidicate a "shot-for-shot recreation".

basically when it comes down to it, Ben Gibbard, nobody cares whether or not you "approve this commercialization" or not, and certainly nobody cares if you are disappointed with any parties involved with the making or ownership of the mac + intel advertisement. nobody needs your consent or to even consult with you. you hold no legal right to have any say in the matter either as you, as expressed above, do not hold any copyright over a particular scene that occurs in the natural world (which appear in your video) and no copyright has been violated.

w00t! 802.11n has been approved and we finally have a realistic wireless medium thats comparable to traditional ethernet. and YES ino ethernet is up and beyond gigabits, but of the many people i know who even know what ethernet is, none use gigabit because the price is just not worth it.

This is a really good look-back at the macworld just gone by

well. i have to say, for me, iLife is actually looking like something i would consider buying in the future. before, i only used iTunes. but then again, everybody uses iTunes - it's smart, intuitive...basically what i have recently found the other iLife apps to be, i have just never had a use for them before. I started scanning my photo collection at home and althought its nowhere near the iPhoto 250,000 limit, there is a good thousand or so photos. Managing them on windows would have just been keeping them in folders. Managing them on my mac is the most brilliant experience ever. i dont have to have a set size for my thumbnails. i dont have to wait for large photos to load because it is all so fast. so since scanning those photos (which is something im still doing hehe), i have started using iPhoto. Yesterday, i used iMovie for the first time on my own mac. I have used it before to try and play around with video, but thats all it ever was, playing. When iMovie was first released, my camera wasn't on the compatability list, and i havent touched it since then. But yesterday, my brother brings me his camera and asks if i can get the video off it, and i found i could. i then connected my camera and found it recognised it too, which is brilliant. before, i was using crappy windows movie maker 2.0 to get video off, and the options were shit. iMovie is smart, fast and easy to work with. thats 3 apps currently used now. iDVD is something ive wanted to use, but never needed to, like the others. i would use it if i needed it, but i havent. then again, i suppose that considering i will probably be using iMovie more nowadays, i will be exporting to iDVD more nowadays. and lastly iWeb is something im definately going to be severely testing with and trying out, and GarageBand is an app i would use if i was into that sorta stuff. i feel i will be using iWeb fully when the syntax and semantics get cleaned up, and i played with GarageBand yesterday just to enjoy the speed of it, but definately out of the 6 apps, i dont mind paying for 1 i will hardly ever use (GarageBand), because it is definately worth it.

very nice macro

i was so scared last night, somebody was walking around the side of my house and my mother and me were the only ones in the house. what happened was my mother called me and told me to quickly come to that part of the house cos she could hear someone in her bathroom. when i got there she thought it had been me rustling around for something...but it turned out there was nobody inside the house, but someone outside was walking around, i think holding the dogs too so they could go running around, and they were kicking pebbles up onto the glass and freaking my mum and me out. so i called the police and and they eventually came...i had turned on the lights since then and then it all quietened down from then on.

someone was in our backyard a while ago, because they had gotten a metal thing and propped it up to get over the back fence, and left dents in it where they stood. its so appalling, i hate this suburb, but my uni is close by so thats why im stuck here v_v.

oh my freakin god. right this VERY moment im listening to the kyle and jackie o show on 92.9, and they are discussing "brokeback mountain" with some religious crank...and the crank is spouting shit about "freedom of choice" and shite about how the cinemas dont have to show it if they dont choose to, and that gay propaganda is being shoved down our throat. and kyle makes the very valid point, that any restriction on content relating to homosexuality is not allowing people the choice of being gay or lesbian, and that is the same bigotry mentality that for years, prevented black people from travelling ont he same bus as white people. to tell the truth, it really depends on my mood as to whether or not i am accepting of people who are homosexual...but overall i am not PRO homo, as in, i dont go shouting their praises from the rooftop...but i am not against it either and i am fine, as long as they are happy. i dont see why people should continue to persocute them, or even speak of them as if they are a different species. they are human, and have different sexual tendancies, and for that, nobody has the right to ridicule them. if ANYTHING has been shoved down our throat, its f***ing religion, and that is definately something i have always had a big problem with. when the god-botherers can realise that everyone doesnt have to conform to their views, i think the world will become a much more civilised place.

but then again, anyone who makes a social comment like i have is either going to be labelled a gay-supporter, or gay-basher, depending on the stance of the comment. everything isnt black or white people. there ARE shades of grey. while we continue to live in this white or black society, we will always have discrimination, and its not until we all have it affect our lives in some way that we realise that perhaps, people with a different sexual orientation arent as in-human as the majority of people seem to think they are.

lol...this story is pretty interesting (in a funny way)...and a bit embarrassing too. the reason its embarrassing is cos im an aussie, and i heard it first from an AMERICAN source...which means if they are blogging on it, i just know they are judging us harshly considering the story content lol

Dirty talker on subway P.A. systems
An unknown woman in Melbourne, Australia has twice broken into locked cabs on subway trains and commandeered the public address system for dirty talk.

"There was a woman on the address system. It was very graphic about how she was going to have sex with a driver for about three minutes," said Angela, a passenger on the Frankston-bound train.

"I thought she was in cahoots with the driver."

Angela said there were families on board unhappy their children were exposed to the content...

(Railway operator) Connex has said some people are aware of a weakness that allows them to force their way into vacant cabins and hijack the PA.

They said the flaw would be fixed this year.

i found this photo on yahoo news...here is what the article says:

Cy, short for Cyclopes, a kitten born with only one eye and no nose, is shown in this photo provided by its owner in Redmond, Oregon, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. The kitten, a ragdoll breed, which died after living for one day, was one of two in the litter. Its sibling was born normal and healthy.

Damien Barrett ( a blogger on TUAW) makes a very good point about mwsf and trying to tell non-mac people the utter importance of it hehe:

Explaining the importance of the Macworld Expo and the Keynote to non-Mac people isn't easy. Heck, I was briefly considering trying to squeeze in an attendance to MWSF this year and therefore risking missing my own twin brother's wedding, but I decided in the end that family (and a nice trip to St. Croix) is a bit more important than the Stevenote. However, the fact that I actually considered doing so means something. MWSF is a pilgrimage; it's the event of the year for many of us; it's religious in nature. Explaining to a layman why this is so important to us just isn't easy. Luckily, Tom Bridge has stepped forward to give us a great post to help us do just that.

wow...wow...WOW!!! i just discovered one of the greatest things in the world!...i was watching an anime, and there was a graphic drawn in it of a common object (an on/off switch), which was drawn a bit funny, and then it clicked (no pun intended) about why on/off switched have a | and a O symbol on them, or an | cutting through half the O...its cos the | represents a 1 (one) and the O represents a 0 (zero), denoting the binary respresentation of true and false, 1 being true, or "on" and 0 meaning false, or "off". so the | means its on and the O means its off! what an amazing discovery!

am i wikid or what ;)
